From Rome to Amalfi

Hi JP,

I discovered your site a few weeks ago and find it very helpful! My girlfriend and I will be going to Italy in two weeks. At some point, we will be traveling from Rome to the city of Amalfi, where our hotel is located. What do you think is the fastest and most efficient way to get there from Rome?

While in Amalfi we will explore Ravello, Positano, Minori, and Capri. Do you think it is wise to pre-book boat tours for Capri or should we wait until we are there and purchase everything at that moment? Thank you in advance for you help, I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Tim, thanks for liking Delightfully Italy.

August is really high season in Italy, so better to reserve as soon as you can.
In my view the best way to get to Amalfi would be fast train to Salerno and then boat to Amalfi. This will help you skip the queues on the small Amalfi coast road.
You will find public buses to visit Ravello, Positano and similar, but be prepared to very crowded buses. Renting a car / joining other travelers to hire a taxi could be an alternative.

Enjoy Italy!
