Hi Frank, thanks for stopping by.
Spring is a great moment to visit Italy. Concerning your Tuscany tour, I assume you are fine driving in Italy, so here is what I would suggest:
Apri 26: Mxp airport >> Bus to Central station (45′) >> Venice by train (2,5 hours). Sleep in Venice, recover Jet lag. My favorite hotel: http://www.hotelfoscaripalace.it/italian/index.php
April 27: Full day in Venice
April 28: Early depart for Florence (High speed rain, 2 hours). Explore Florence city center + sunset at Piazzale Michelangelo. My favorite hotel: http://www.albergocavour.it/
April 29: Day trip to Lucca and (optional) Pisa by train. If you want to climb the leaning tower, remember to reserve your tickets very much in advance!
May 1st: Continue your Tuscany exploration by car: Montalcino (and its famous wines + beautiful abbazia di Sant’Antimo), Bagno Vignoni, Pienza. From there, highway to Rome (suggested hotel: http://www.lalumieredipiazzadispagna.com/)
May 2nd: Rome: St Peter Reserve in advance if you wish to visit the museums), Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Ghetto. Dinner in Trastevere
May 3rd: Rome: Forum + Colosseo (reserve in advance!). When you are finished, amazing San Clemente, San Pietro in Vincoli (for Michelangelo’s moses) and lovely Rione Monti
May 4th: In the morning, Spanish steps, Fontana di trevi, shopping, etc. In the afternoon Rome >> Milan (3 hours, high speed direct train). Before getting into the train, try to have a look a Santa Maria degli Angeli (old Roman Thermae, just in front of teh station) In Milan, Dinner in the Navigli area
May 5th: Morning: Milan, Cathedral, Galleria, Brera Neighbourhood / Mediaval Milan (see my post); last aperitivo and Train to Malpensa airport (45′)
