What to do in Venice

I will be arriving in Venice Tuesday and leave Sunday morning for a day/night in Milan before heading back to the USA.

It would be great to hear what you would suggest for 4 days in Venice and a half day/night in Milan.

Several people have suggested a trip to Murano.

Look forward to any suggestions you may have.  You have a wonderful website.

Thanks,
Hunter

Hi Hunter, thanks for liking my blog.

Yes Murano is nice, but you could actually plan a full day exploration of the lagoon.
Start your day with a vaporetto to Torcello (check here the time table:http://www.actv.it/en/movinginvenice/waterbusservicetimetable).
Torcello is a beautiful island, out of the beaten path, with an amazing Romanic church and one of the best restaurant of the area, the locanda cipriani, were Hemingway, Charlie Chaplin and the Royal family used to rest!. Have a look at some pictures: https://www.google.it/search?q=torcello&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CCwQsARqFQoTCOKbj-mO48YCFaOPcgodJIwFjA&biw=1366&bih=643. On your way back to Venice, stop in Burano, a very pleasant small canal town, with funny colored houses – https://www.google.it/search?q=Burano&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CCEQsARqFQoTCJ_75JaP48YCFQaecgod4iUPZQ&biw=1366&bih=643. This is actually an excellent place to have lunch
Then take the vaporetto to Murano, and enjoy the glass workshops (free shows all day long)
Other suggestion: if you like modern art, you should visit the Biennale (http://www.labiennale.org/en/Home.html), one of the greatest modern art exhibitions in Europe. It usually splits in two areas, the Giardini della Biennale and the Arsenale. The latter is really cool, since the exhibition takes place in the 18th century arsenal.
On your way to Milan, why don’t you stop in Verona, for a full / half day visit? It’s a lovely and lively city!
